Ozzie’s is excited to kick off the Summer 2014 Sports Camp Season.  We will be running lots of Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Soccer, Football, and Speed Training camps all over the St. Louis area, Illinois, Missouri, and Virginia. for kids ages 4-18.  We have specialized co-ed camps for younger kids ages 4-6. Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy is St. Louis’ finest year-round, indoor teaching and training facility.  The indoor Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy is located at 15739 Manchester Road, Ballwin, MO in the Bullpen Brothers building.  All in all,  Ozzie’s has been training youth, high school, and adult athletes for the last 25 years.  In addition to our St. Louis base we now host sports camps in 7 states:  Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, and Virginia.   • TEAMS Ozzie Smith Sports Academy teams are forming monthly in four sports categories (baseball, softball, soccer, and basketball). Our teams offer specialized instruction from experienced coaches in and out of season. Games are played in local leagues. Prices start at $149/month. This price includes practices, games, and uniforms.

Our mission is to maximize the talents of every athlete.  We believe that sports are a great training tool for life.  Through hard word, dedication, proper mechanics and a lot of practice, every athlete can physically and mentally elevate to the next level.

Our Coaching and Instruction

Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy offers instruction in 5 sports: baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, and our newest division speed, agility and core development.  Ozzie’s has been servicing athletes around the country since 1990.  We are currently providing technical training for over 5,000 athletes annually.  We have helped 164 athletes receive scholarships totaling over $17,400,000 in tuition dollars. We have also produced 24 professional athletes.

Most importantly, Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy teaching style is designed to motivate and challenge all of our athletes.  We believe with positive reinforcement and a solid plan of action, the improvement will show through clearly.  All of our instructors have played at the collegiate and/or professional levels and truly enjoy teaching kids. Casey Johnson, Baseball Instructor and Coach

Casey has been an important figure at Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy for several years.  Many parents and young people enjoy his coaching sessions.

Casey graduated from Eureka High School in 2004. As a sophomore and junior starting pitcher Casey was named Second Team All Suburban South.  As a senior he lead the Suburban South in ERA and Strikeouts earning First Team Suburban South honors. In 2003 Casey was selected to represent team Missouri in the Junior Sunbelt Games in Oklahoma starting the team’s opening game. In the 2004 American Legion season Casey posted a 1.90 ERA and recorded 120 strikeouts in 79 innings and was runner up for District 10 Pitcher of the Year, and started the District 10 all star game.

Casey signed a letter of intent to pitch at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO. In the fall of 2004 he earned team MVP of the fall World Series, and in the following spring Casey made his college debut against #1 ranked Tulane University and became the weekday starter, pitching against nationally ranked Mizzou, Arkansas State, Missouri State. He transferred home in the spring of 2006 to pitch and play first base for Meramec Community College in Kirkwood, MO. During the 2007 season Casey suffered a torn labrum ending his college career. Casey’s coaching experience includes coaching a 4th grade boys basketball team in 2004, and served as the pitching coach for the Freshman Eureka Wildcat’s summer team in 2005. Casey worked as a summer sports camp counselor for the Wildwood YMCA in 2006.

David Randolph, owner and founder of Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy, had a dream…a dream of giving back to those athletes that want to excel in their sport of choice. In 1990, Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy was born and for the last 24 years it has produced results for every athlete it has trained. David brought to Ozzie’s his life-long experiences, but also his passion for teaching. David was a 4-year football, basketball and baseball athlete at Principia College in Illinois. Since opening Ozzie’s, David has taught over 30,000 students. David personally trains all of Ozzie’s instructors using a specific program designed to maximize each student’s potential. David has over 38 years of coaching and playing experience and he pride’s himself on teaching his students whatever is necessary to help them reach their potential. He stresses HARD WORK and DEDICATION to every aspect of each respective sport.

Soccer Coaches

Soccer instruction at Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy in Chesterfield, MO is focused on developing sound technical skills. In addition, players are given a good understanding of the individual tactical components of the game.  Topics include foot skills, fast footwork, goalkeeper skills, and shooting and finishing.  In addition to our indoor training facility in Chesterfield, Mo we also offer soccer teams in St. Louis year round, and summer soccer camps across the midwest and Virginia.  Soccer camps are held in St. Louis, MO, Chesterfield, Mo, Webster Groves, Mo, Edwardsville, IL, Godfrey, IL, and Suffolk, Virginia to name a few.

RandolphRandolph Smith

Randolph started playing soccer at the age of 5. At the age of 16, he got his first international cap for his country as a Jr Lone Stars which was based in Atlanta.  After high school, he attended Georgia State University for 2 years and moved to Jacksonville, Illinois where he attended MacMurry College.  He then became an all American. After two years of playing at MacMurry he moved back to Atlanta and played at GA State which also landed him a spot on L’ville FC a developmental team and the Atlanta Silverbacks which is part of the USL pro league. Randolph still plays in a few Rec  and developmental leagues around Saint Louis and through out the United States. He has had a few offers to play overseas, but for now he thinks his calling is to coach and teach youth the game of soccer.

Football Coaches

Our football sessions at Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy come with high energy and intensity. Each student must come with a high level of concentration. We teach the fundamentals of the game as our foundation. Our students will learn the fundamentals of throwing, receiving, tackling, blocking, kicking, stances, steps, reads, route running and every technique necessary to achieve their goals.  In addition to our indoor training facility in Chesterfield, Mo we also offer summer football camps in St. Charles, MO.

John Oyer

John holds a B.A. in Physical Education and a Master’s Degree in Sport Science.  High School Football Playing Experience: 4 years and 2 year Letterman *All State Kicker, Arvada West High School Avrada, Colorado. College Football Playing Experience: 4 years, U.N.C. Greeley, Colorado.  Professional Playing Experience: Denver Gold U.S.F.L. – Pre-Season Training Camp 1983 Denver Broncos N.F.L. played in Pre-Season before being waived at the end 85% Field Goal Percentage.  Achieved 4.4 Hang Time on Kick-Offs to the 5 yard line. Coaching Experience: John has coached Kickers and Punters at the Age Group, High School and Division III College levels for the past 30 years. Many of his Kickers & Punters have either led the league or were awarded 1st or 2nd team honors in State and or Conference. John’s ability to connect with students at all levels of play have made him extremely effective in relating what it takes to be an affective kicker or punter and get the job done. John is currently coaching the kickers and punters at Washington University, St. Louis. John has a passion for kicking and punting. He has always wanted to share this with whoever had the same passion.

Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy provides quality basketball instruction for boys and girls. Our instructors emphasize teaching fundamentals and player development. The instructor will stress the Big 5 (Shooting, Passing, Rebounding, Dribbling, and Defense), while instilling life skills such as good character, teamwork, and effort.  In addition to our indoor basketball training facility in Town and Country, MO we also offer basketball teams in St. Louis year round, and summer basketball camps across the midwest and Virginia.  Basketball camps are held in St. Louis, MO, Rockwood, MO, Florissant, Mo and Webster Groves, MO to name a few.

Holtgrewe, RachelRachel Holtgrewe

A native of St. Charles, MO, Rachel (Viehmann) Holtgrewe began playing basketball at an early age and instantly fell in love with the game.  She played on various club teams in the St. Louis area growing up and graduated from St. Charles West High School (2005), where she was a four sport athlete.  While in high school, Rachel set various school records, as well as being a leader in the St. Louis area in rebounding, blocked shots, and scoring. She was 1st team all state (Class 4), nominated to the WBCA All-American team, and was the Post-Dispatch Scholar athlete for her school. After being recruited by numerous collegiate programs, Rachel earned an athletic scholarship to play Div. 1 basketball at Lipscomb University in Nashville, choosing them for their Christian environment.  After a 3 year career there, she moved back to St. Louis and played her senior year at Maryville University where they were undefeated in the SLIAC conference and continued on to the NCAA Div. III tournament.  She graduated from Maryville with a degree in Psychology and Sociology.  After graduation, Rachel continued her basketball endeavors by coaching jv (1 year) and varsity (2 years) girls basketball at Francis Howell North High School. “I believe all my experiences in basketball have granted me a lot of knowledge that I want to pass on to younger players. I truly believe developing good, basic skills are the key to becoming a great player.” Rachel enjoys working with all ages and skill levels, and focuses on proper shooting technique and defensive breakdown. Understanding that each athlete is different, she uses a variety of drills and techniques to help each player reach their full potential.   Rachel’s biggest goal is to see a player grow confident in themselves not only as an athlete, but as an individual as well.

 

Bball PicKelly Carter

Kelly Carter was raised in Bloomington, Illinois where she attended Bloomington High School. In her
senior year, Carter led the 19-6 Purple Raiders in points (14.2), assists (3.1), 3-pointers (34) and field goal
percentage (.502). The two-time Illinois Basketball Coaches Association honorable mention all-starter
also averaged 3.1 steals and shot .770 from the free throw line. She was also named The Pantagraph
Player of the Year.Carter attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis where she played for five years and received a
Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  After playing a reserve role as a freshman and sophomore, Carter jumped into the starting line-up as a junior. She was plagued by a season-ending injury four games into her senior season and was forced to redshirt. Carter closed out her career by leading the team in three-point field goals (40) and was third in scoring with 9.4 points per game. Carter finished her career ranking second in career three-point field
goal percentage, hitting at a 40.2 percent. She also ranks ninth in career assists with 194. She was also a
three-time academic all-GLVC honoree.

Softball Coaches

Our softball coaches and instructors at Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy in Chesterfield, MO will cover both offense and defense.  Offensively, instructors will be breaking down the swing (going over all the mechanics), and players will learn and participate in many drills to execute the correct swing.  Instructors will also breakdown bunting, slapping, and base-running.

Defensively, players will learn correct throwing mechanics, and fielding fundamentals for infield, outfield, catching, and pitching.  In addition to our indoor softball training facility in Chesterfield, Mo we also offer softball teams in St. Louis year round, and summer softball camps across the midwest and Virginia.  Softball camps are held in St. Louis, MO, Chesterfield, Mo, Webster Groves, Mo, Edwardsville, IL, Godfrey, IL, and Suffolk, Virginia to name a few.   For a complete list of St. Louis area Softball camps, click here.  For a complete list of Softball Camps outside of St. Louis, click here. 

Lexi_3Lexi Theis

Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy is excited to announce a new softball hitting instructor joining our team, Lexi Theis.  Lexi attended Fort Zumwalt North High School and was named to the first team all-conference and all-district her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. She was placed on first team All-Region after her senior season and was an all-academic team member all four seasons.  During her senior season she hit .458 with seven HRs and 31 RBIs.

Lexi Theis is currently a part of the Lindenwood Softball Team and plays first base. Lexi has been a part of the St. Louis Softball world since she was nine years old and has had a lot of success with teams such as the St. Louis Angels, The St. Louis Gamers, and the Prospects. She was also selected as a member of the Missouri All-star team in 2012 and 2013. Her love of the game has her coming back to give lessons to girls of all skill levels.

Brooke MillerBrooke Miller

Brooke Miller graduated from John F. Kennedy Catholic Highschool in 2012. She played softball all four years.  Brooke was named to the first team all-conference, all-district, all-metro, and all-region for my sophomore, junior, and senior seasons along with being all academic all 4 years. Her senior season she batted .521 with 8 homeruns and started pitching in 21 games with a record of 17-4 with an ERA of 1.23 striking out 133 hitters in 131.1 innings pitched. Brooke currently holds 10 school records for both pitching and hitting. After graduation she began her college career at Lindenwood University to play ball on both athletic and academic scholarships as a pitcher. Brooke has been a part of the St Louis Softball community for 8 years playing for the St. Louis Classics and the St. Louis Esprit. Nick FerraroNick Ferraro

Nick is from Parkville, MO.  He attended Hesston College majoring in Business Administration and is currently attending and entering senior year at Harris-Stowe State University with a major in Business Administration where he converted to pitcher only. He and his team were back to back  JUCCO region Champions.  Nick loves to coach baseball.  He started as an assistant coach at the age of 19 for the 12U Kansas City Riverhawks.  He then landed his first job as a head coach at the age of 21 for the 16U Lansing Reds in Lansing Kansas.  He spent the summer of 2017 as the Administrative Coordinator for the Ozzie Smiths Sports Academy, as well as one of the few lead instructors for the Annual Ozzie Smiths Baseball camps and also teaching private lessons.  Nick offers private lessons at our Ellisville location and also at Harris Stowe.

Ryan Brown has been with our academy for almost 20 years.  He graduated from Webster Groves high school in 1994.  He attended Culver-Stockton College on both athletic and academic scholarships.  He was conference player of the week 3 times and in 1996 won the Hustle Award which was voted on by his teammates.  In 1998 Ryan was instrumental in helping his team get to the NAIA College World Series.  In 2009 Ryan was inducted into the Culver-Stockton College Hall Of Fame.

Before moving away to embark on his teaching and coaching career, Ryan played semi-professional baseball for the Fairview Heights Redbirds.  Ryan has instructed individual baseball players from T-ball age to college age.  He is the head coach of the Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy 10U Wizards Baseball Club.  From 2002-2004 Ryan was the President of the National Adult Baseball Association in St. Louis.
