Kyle Kinyon, new baseball coach at Ozzie Smith’s Sports Academy is originally from the suburbs of Chicago. He recently graduated from Maryville University with an outstanding career in baseball. His freshmen year he tied for the team lead in batting average at .291 and was voted by my teammates as Rookie of the Year. His junior year Maryville clinched a spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. His senior year, Kyle led the team in batting average at .344. He was also named First Team All GLVC. Kyle graduated from Maryville in May 2014 with a degree in Sports Business Management.
During high school near Chicago, Kyle was a four year starter at the varsity level for baseball at catcher. During his senior year they won their first ever Regional game and followed that with their first ever Regional District Championship. During high school, Kyle received many awards. These include: All Conference and First Team, Honorable Mention All Conference and Honorable Mention All Area. Kyle ended his high school career as the program’s all time leader in games started and games played.
After his college playing days ended Kyle says, “I couldn’t stay away for too long. The game means too much to me and I now I want to help teach what I have learned to other players who have the same passion for the game that I do.”
