New Basketball Coach at Ozzie’s Jessica Zavoral
Jessica Zavoral was raised in Altamont, Illinois where she attended Altamont High School. In her senior year, Jessica led the Altamont Indians to a 16-7 record while leading the team with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals per game. Zavoral then attended Olney Central Junior College where she played 2 years averaging 12.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game as a sophomore. She set an OCC single season best 86.4 percent (84-97) clip from the free throw line, which ranked fourth in the NJCAA Division I. She also graduated as the school’s career leader in free throw shooting, connecting at 80.4 percent (156-194). After 2 years at Olney, Zavoral attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis for 2 years. In her junior year at UMSL she saw action in all 27 games. She led the team at the free throw line shooting 81.5 percent, drained 25 three pointers, shooting 36.8 percent from beyond the arc. Jessica closed out her senior year with starting 19 out of the 22 games that she played. She suffered a broken hand mid-way through the season that prevented her from playing in 6 games. Zavoral averaged 8.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and shot 75 percent from the free throw line her senior year. The Triton’s tied the best single season record at 21-8 and made an appearance in the NCAA National Tournament for only the second time in school history.
